Nget Pyaw Taw Monastic School (Happy birds monastic school) is located in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State. The Monastic School is 6 KM away from Kin Pon base camp (on the way to famous golden rock). The sayadaw (head monk), U Tay Zaww Bar Tha, founded this Monastic School in 1998 with 4 teachers & was teaching from Grade-1 to Grade-5. Since that time, the Monastic School was giving free education to, the poor families (children) around the region who live nearby as well as, the children from remote area. The goals are to train young children in order to become educated with good manner, good heart persons in their future to serve & to help their country & their citizens.
Nowadays, in this (2014-2015) Academic year, the Monastic School is giving free education to 340 children from Grade-1 to Grade-9 with 12 volunteer teachers. The Monastic School has 7 monks, 2 monk teachers & 10 female teachers. Moreover, among 340 students, 60 ethnic children from remote area (deep jungles) are staying (as a boarding-school) at the Monastery and the Monastery is providing those students’ affair such as food, clothes & accommodation, etc. Mostly, who are attending at this school are Karen ethnic nation.
